Luxury Timepieces: A Guide to Acquiring a Vacheron Constantin Watch Akin to Brad Pitt's 222, and the Renewed Appeal of London's Fashionable Sloane Street
In the world of luxury watches and fine dining, two notable events have taken place recently.
Firstly, Vacheron Constantin has unveiled a new version of the Historique 222 watch, priced at £30,800. This reinterpretation of a heritage piece from 1977 is now available in steel, featuring a blue dial and a steel bracelet. The new model retains a relatively slim profile, echoing the sport-luxury aesthetic of its 1970s predecessor, while incorporating modern automatic movement technology and high-quality finishing.
Key technical details include an automatic caliber movement, a steel case and bracelet, a blue dial, and water resistance rated modestly at around 30 meters. The Historiques 222 is a distinctive addition to Vacheron Constantin's lineup, offering a blend of vintage-inspired design with modern technology, targeted at collectors appreciating the brand’s heritage.
Meanwhile, Trullo, an Italian restaurant in Islington, is celebrating its 15-year anniversary with a three-month residency at Harvey Nichols. Trullo's menus for the residency will include popular dishes such as chopped beef fillet with rosemary and anchovy, as well as new dishes inspired by the Knightstridge surroundings. Trullo at Harvey Nichols will open on 3rd March and will offer lunch service from 12.30pm-2.45pm and supper from 6pm-8pm. A lighter menu will be served between 3pm and 5pm. Trullo's own label Gavi and Chianti wines will be available for purchase during the residency at Harvey Nichols.
Sloane Street, linking Chelsea and Knightsbridge, has also undergone a 1km-long 'green boulevard' renovation costing £40 million. The renovation aims to encourage footfall and dwell time, transforming the area into a more inviting and sustainable destination. Shops such as Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Loro Piana, and hotels like Belmond Cadogan and Beaverbrook Townhouse can be found along Sloane Street.
In other news, Alexander Darwall, who owns swathes of land in Dartmoor, has been involved in ongoing disputes regarding wild camping on the moor. The High Court found in Darwall's favor two years ago, stating there is no right to wild camp without the landowner's permission. However, wild camping access was restored on Dartmoor in 2023, but Darwall moved for the case to be heard in the Supreme Court in 2024.
