Enhanced Services and Schedules

To cater to the anticipated surge in travelers, the High-Speed Rail (HSR) at West Kowloon Station augmented its services. On April 18 and 19, an extra eight southbound trains were operational from Shenzhenbei Station, and seven additional northbound trains ran from April 20 to 21 to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station.

The festive season also saw the addition of eight pairs of chartered trains destined for popular spots like Guilin, Changsha, Chaoshan, Zhangjiajie, Nanchang, and Zhaoqing, operating from April 18 to 22.

The Easter holiday witnessed a whopping 3.77 million trips across all land, air, and sea checkpoints in Hong Kong. The initial day of the holiday saw a staggering 724,316 local residents journeying to the mainland, a substantial increase since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The holiday season also saw a nine-percent increase in travel to the mainland, with a total of over 1.62 million outbound trips by Hong Kong residents compared to the previous year.

Pro-Active Measures

The high demand for travel led to queues at West Kowloon Station, encouraging travelers to strategize their journey times and opt for off-peak hours to avoid congestion. To manage the crowds, the Immigration Department stationed additional personnel at border checkpoints, including the West Kowloon High-Speed Rail Station.

In light of the increased travel due to the Easter holiday, many passengers opted to explore their lifestyle choices by embarking on travel journeys, particularly utilizing the enhanced services of the High-Speed Rail from West Kowloon Station. Additionally, the high-speed trains offered chartered services to popular tourist destinations such as Guilin, Changsha, Chaoshan, Zhangjiajie, Nanchang, and Zhaoqing, attracting even more travelers seeking a change in their lifestyle through exploration during the holiday season.
