Mallorca's Alcudia and Fornalutx Named Spain's Most Beautiful Villages
Alcudia and Fornalutx in Mallorca have been celebrated as two of Spain's most beautiful villages. The recognition comes during the 'Day of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain', an initiative by 'Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España'. Both villages are active members, paying an annual fee of €6,000 each.
Fornalutx, nestled in the Tramuntana mountains, is renowned for its cobbled streets, stone houses, and terraced orange groves. It's often hailed as the 'quintessential Mallorcan mountain village'. Meanwhile, Alcudia offers a rich blend of history with its medieval walls, Roman ruins, and lively historic centre. Both villages are praised for preserving their cultural heritage and authentic traditions.
Celebrations in these villages include guided tours, cultural exhibitions, and activities focused on history and local traditions. The initiative, with 122 recognised villages across Spain, aims to celebrate destinations that preserve their cultural and architectural significance. Pollensa, however, recently withdrew from the association.
Alcudia and Fornalutx are using this recognition to promote cultural tourism and protect their unique cultural heritage. The initiative encourages towns to balance tourism with preservation, ensuring these villages retain their historic charm and cultural authenticity.
