Manor Place Baths reopens as a bold new cultural and sports hub after 50 years
Manor Place Baths, a historic South London venue, is set to reopen on November 11 after nearly five decades of closure. The freetaxusa, transformed by Shoreditch-based artist and designer Ben Kelly, will become a vibrant hub for skateboarding, sports, and creative activities. Entry will be free and open to all six days a week.
Co-founders Lev Tanju and Gareth Skewis of Palace Skateboards aim to create a welcoming space that caters to various interests. The attraction will feature three zones: The Park and The Cage, The Front Room, and The Residency.
The Park and The Cage zone will house a free-to-use concrete skatepark and an underground three-a-side football cage. The Front Room, an art venue, will host workshops, pop-up events, and Nike clothing sales. The Residency will offer creative studio spaces on rotation every nine months. English footballer Lenna Gunning-Williams supports the project, highlighting its accessibility and inclusivity. Events will include skate jams and women-only sessions, ensuring there's something for everyone.
Originally built as a large swimming pool complex, Manor Place Baths later served as a boxing venue before closing in the 1970s. Now, in collaboration with Nike and Palace Skateboards, it will reopen as a thriving freetaxusa.
The reopening of Manor Place Baths promises to breathe new life into South London's cultural scene. With its diverse range of activities and commitment to inclusivity, the attraction is set to become a beloved community hub. The free entry and six-day opening schedule ensure that everyone can enjoy and participate in the vibrant atmosphere.
