Manx music and language to take centre stage at cathedral concert
A traditional Manx concert will launch Blein ny Gaelgey 2026, the Year of the Manx Language. The event, organised by children’s charity Mooinjer Veggey, takes place at Peel Cathedral on January 3, 2026. It promises an evening of music, song, and drama to celebrate the island’s linguistic heritage.
The concert, titled Oie’ll Verree, runs from 7pm to 9.45pm. Performers include Caarjyn Cooidjagh, Clash Vooar, and the Mollag Band, alongside solo acts like Daniel Quayle and Elizabeth Davidson-Blythe. Annie Kissack, winner of the Reih Bleeaney Vanannan award, will recite poetry, while The Whiteboys and Scran also join the lineup.
Guests can enjoy a traditional Manx supper and a raffle during the evening. Tickets cost £20 each and are available through Mooinjer Veggey’s events page or by calling Phil Gawne on 834844. The charity supports young people in growing up bilingual and connected to Manx culture. Blein ny Gaelgey 2026 will continue throughout the year with further events. More details can be found at [yearofmanx.im](https://yearofmanx.im/).
The concert marks the first major event of Blein ny Gaelgey 2026. It brings together artists and audiences to celebrate the Manx language through performance and community. Organisers hope the evening will inspire wider engagement with the island’s cultural traditions.
