Munich Airport is preparing for a bustling summer as it anticipates an influx of travellers from across the globe. With over 45,000 flights scheduled from August 1 to September 15, a 6% increase compared to last year, the airport is set to be a hub of activity.

During this period, passengers can fly to around 210 destinations in 67 countries, with popular destinations including Italy and Spain. Approximately 420 and 320 departures per week are expected for Italy and Spain respectively. The USA and Canada also see a significant number of weekly departures during the summer holidays.

While specific data on the busiest destinations from Munich Airport this summer is not yet available, it's likely that major European vacation spots served by low-cost and regular carriers will top the list. The airport's popularity, as the second-busiest in Germany and the 11th in Europe, and its extensive network of international destinations suggest a wide range of busy routes.

For those travelling with children, Munich Airport offers a helpful service. Free loan strollers are available behind security controls in Terminal 1, near check-in Z in the public area, and near the family check-in in Terminal 2 during the summer holidays. In Terminal 2, passengers can take their own strollers up to the entrance of the aircraft.

Travellers arriving by car are advised to pre-book a parking space online due to high demand during the summer holidays. Munich Airport recommends passengers to plan enough time for their journey to the airport and their stay there on the day of departure.

In light of the increased passenger traffic, some airlines are offering to temporarily check in hand luggage for free at Munich Airport. This is welcome news for travellers looking to streamline their airport experience.

Intercontinental flights are in high demand, with around 2,350 take-offs to long-haul destinations for the summer holidays. Additionally, around 200 aircraft will depart for Asia each week during this period.
