Monet Izabeth Makes History as First Woman of Color to Ski Solo to the South Pole

Monet Izabeth has become the first woman of color to ski solo and unsupported to the South Pole. The adventurer, writer, and storyteller completed the 700-mile journey in 57 days, carrying all her supplies. Her expedition marks a historic moment in polar exploration.

Izabeth's journey began on 23 November when she was dropped off at the edge of Antarctica. From there, she skied alone, hauling her food, fuel, and equipment across the ice. No woman from an ethnically diverse background had ever achieved this feat before.

Her preparation was rigorous. She trained under Jon Fearne of E3 Coaching, building endurance, strength, and mental resilience. She also crossed the Greenlandic ice cap with Polar Explorers and undertook solo expeditions in Minnesota and Norway. For logistics, she worked with Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions (ALE), ensuring flight plans, safety measures, and emergency support were in place.

Izabeth's inspiration came from reading about Preet Chandi's polar achievements. But her own drive stems from curiosity, persistence, and a belief in learning by doing. She encourages others to push past their limits and explore what's possible beyond comfort.

Her writing often delves into the emotional and psychological challenges of her adventures. This expedition was no different—each day tested her physically and mentally as she navigated one of the harshest environments on Earth.

Izabeth reached the South Pole after 57 days of solo skiing. Her accomplishment breaks new ground in polar history, proving that determination and preparation can overcome even the most extreme challenges. The expedition also highlights the importance of representation in exploration, as she becomes the first woman of color to complete this unsupported journey.
