Mother of Two Quits Job, Plans Global Sailboat Adventure

Janelle Jones, a marketing strategist and children's event organiser, is planning an extraordinary adventure with her five and nine-year-old children. In the coming months, they will embark on a global journey aboard a sailboat, starting in several countries. Janelle has always dreamed of such a trip, aiming for a month-long international voyage each year.

Janelle's unique lifestyle balances her roles as a mother, teacher, and businesswoman. She starts her day early, from 6 to 8 am, focusing on her businesses. Then, she dedicates her time to homeschooling her children until mid-morning. After a break, she continues her workday with client calls and meetings in her home office while her children rest. In the evenings, from 7 to 10 pm, she tackles intense tasks to keep her businesses running smoothly.

Janelle's childcare arrangements are flexible and budgeted at $150 (130 euros) weekly. She uses a combination of babysitters, emergency services, and local summer camps during school holidays. This allows her to maintain her work schedule and prepare for their upcoming voyage.

Janelle occasionally turns down well-paid work due to childcare constraints. Her decision is driven by her emotional well-being and whether she enjoys the work. She has shifted her focus from financial aspects to flexibility in her businesses to accommodate her family's needs and her dream of traveling the world together.

Janelle Jones' homeowners association recently changed rules, preventing her from renting out her apartment on Airbnb for short-term stays. Despite this setback, Janelle remains committed to her dream of traveling the world with her children. She budgets for childcare, balances her work and family life, and occasionally turns down work to maintain her emotional well-being. With their sailboat adventure on the horizon, Janelle and her children look forward to exploring new countries together.
