Mudgee’s Zin House closes to reopen as a bold new dining experience in 2026

The Zin House in Mudgee, NSW, is set to close after over a decade, marking the end of an era. Owner and chef Kim Currie has decided to rebrand the establishment, aiming to set a new tone for regional dining in Australia. The new venture, Zin - Food & Wine, is expected to open in January 2026, bringing a fresh, more inclusive dining experience to the area.

David Lowe, a renowned winemaker, will be involved in the renewal of the restaurant site. The new Zin will focus on simple, scratch-cooked food, inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking. It will serve a $95 set menu, designed to be enjoyed all at once, encouraging diners to dine at their own pace.

The restaurant will be more energetic and playful, with a strong emphasis on affordability. It will open from 11am to 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays, offering a more casual dining experience. The menu will include three small pours of Lowe Family Wines, with additional options available at the bar. Diners can also use QR codes on the menu to access recipes and vineyard footage, allowing them to recreate dishes at home.

The Zin House's closure signals a shift in the Australian dining scene, reflecting a broader trend towards more casual, affordable options. The new Zin - Food & Wine aims to lead this change in regional areas, offering a fresh, inclusive dining experience inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking. With David Lowe's involvement and Kim Currie's culinary expertise, the rebranded restaurant promises an exciting new chapter in Mudgee's dining scene.
