From 'Lost Place' to State Garden Show - Neuss on the Verge - Neuss Transforms Old Racetrack Into a Vibrant Urban Park for 2023 Horticultural Show
Neuss is set to host the North Rhine-Westphalia State Horticultural Show (Landesgartenschau) from April 16, 2023. The event will transform a disused horse racing track into a sprawling urban park filled with flowers, trees, and family-friendly attractions. Organisers anticipate over 650,000 visitors during its six-month run.
The 38-hectare site, once a bustling racetrack, is now being reshaped into a green oasis. Workers have planted more than 2,200 trees and prepared over 20,000 square meters of floral displays, including perennials, roses, and wildflower meadows. Key elements of the original track layout have been preserved, blending history with the new design.
Families will find plenty to explore, with three adventure playgrounds featuring life-sized plastic horses for children. The site is designed for easy access, whether on foot, by bike, public transport, or car. Tickets are priced at €20 for adults, €10 for concessions, and €5 for children and teens under 17. Beyond the gardens, the show will offer over 1,000 events, from cultural performances to educational activities. Neuss hopes the project will leave a lasting legacy, promoting sustainability and showcasing the city as modern and forward-thinking.
The Landesgartenschau will remain open until October 11, 2023. Visitors can expect a mix of natural beauty, entertainment, and community events. The transformed space is intended to become a permanent park for Neuss residents after the show closes.
