Nürnberg Airport set to surpass 4 million passengers in the year 2024

Nuremberg Airport Sees Growth and Expansion in 2024

Nuremberg Airport experienced a resurgence in 2024, with a growth of 2.5% and over 4 million passengers for the first time since 2019. This increase was primarily driven by the tourist sector, which saw a significant 25.4% jump compared to the previous year.

Tourist flight movements at the airport increased by 23%, a clear indication of the public's eagerness to travel after the pandemic-induced lull. Airlines like Eurowings, Condor/Marabu, and Corendon Airlines have been focusing on Nuremberg Airport, expanding their offerings to popular sun destinations such as Spain, Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia.

However, no specific information is available about additional airlines being stationed at the airport for the summer of 2025. Corendon Airlines, on the other hand, is expanding its capacities for the summer of 2026, with two aircraft based at Nuremberg Airport, offering increased flights to destinations like Antalya and Hurghada.

Despite the growth, the airport had to accept a decrease of 10.9% in line traffic in 2024, mainly due to the loss of central hub connections to London-Heathrow, Zurich, and Vienna. This led to a 4.4% decrease in the low-cost segment, primarily due to a general reduction in Ryanair flights.

In a positive note, the trucking freight handled via Nuremberg Airport increased by 3.5% to 84,380 tons in 2024, and freight flown at the airport increased by 5.7% to 4,720 tons.

Investments of 16 million euros were made in 2024, including the preparation of new aircraft parking spaces and the setup of a large photovoltaic plant. Nuremberg Airport expects around 4.3 million passengers in 2025, with around 60 non-stop destinations on the summer flight schedule. Further machines are planned to be stationed at the airport for the summer of 2025.

Dominik Lelle, a passionate traveler and a member of the online editorial team of AERO INTERNATIONAL since 2023, looks forward to the continued growth and expansion of Nuremberg Airport. The airport's annual result for 2024 was -5.6 million euros, but with the ongoing investments and expansion plans, it seems that Nuremberg Airport is set for a bright future.
