Osnabrück's Beloved Steckenpferdreiten Returns with Unique Light Finale

Osnabrück's beloved hobby horse riding tradition, Steckenpferdreiten, returns this year on Peace Day, October 9. The event, held annually since 1953, sees fourth-graders ride through the city center on handmade hobby horses, culminating in a LED lights installation finale organized by the city's cultural department.

The tradition commemorates the proclamation of the Westphalian Peace on October 25, 1648. This year's procession begins at 5:30 PM, led by Mayor Katharina Pötter and the young riders singing a song. After receiving pretzels from the mayor and helpers on the town hall steps, the children gather on the market square for entertainment. This includes fire juggling, a theater performance, and joint singing, making for a lively and memorable event near me.

The finale is a LED lights installation, a first for the event, organized by the project office in the cultural department. While the name of the project office is not explicitly mentioned, their role in the annual organization and planning of Steckenpferdreiten is crucial.

Osnabrück's hobby horse riding tradition continues to bring joy and community spirit to the city. This year's event promises a unique finale with the LED lights installation, adding a new dimension to the cherished tradition. The event serves as a reminder of the city's rich history and the importance of peace.
