Philippines Launches 'Green Committee' for Global Sustainability Expo 2027
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has formed an inter-agency committee to oversee the Philippines' role in the Green Expo 2027. The event, set for Yokohama, Japan, runs from March to September next year and focuses on sustainable agriculture, technology, and innovation. The move aligns with the country's long-term development goals under the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.
The newly created Philippine Organizing Committee (POC), also known as the 'Green Committee', will lead the nation's participation in the international horticultural exposition. Recognised by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), the Green Expo 2027 aims to showcase global advancements in sustainability.
The Department of Agriculture heads the POC as chairperson, with the Department of Tourism serving as vice chairperson. Other members include leaders from foreign affairs, trade and industry, science and technology, culture, and trade exhibitions. The committee can appoint alternates with ranks no lower than assistant secretary.
Key responsibilities of the POC include coordinating across government agencies, acting as the Philippines' main point of contact for the expo, and forming subcommittees for specialised tasks. The group must also submit quarterly progress reports, followed by a final assessment after the event. This report will detail expenses, income, achievements, economic impact, and policy suggestions.
Support from national agencies, local governments, and private businesses has been requested to ensure strong representation. The POC may also seek technical advice from relevant sectors to strengthen the country's involvement in the expo.
The Philippines' participation in the Green Expo 2027 reflects its commitment to sustainable growth in agriculture, science, and innovation. The POC's structured reporting and coordination efforts will track progress and outcomes, ensuring the country's contributions are well-documented and evaluated.
