Plan for reFuels unveiled
The "New Flying" Alliance, a new initiative aimed at promoting the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), was launched on September 15, 2025. The alliance is supported by a diverse group of organizations, including Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe GmbH, DHL Group, eFuel Alliance e.V., en2x – Economic Association Fuels and Energy e.V., Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, HIF EMEA GmbH, Industry Association Stones and Earth Baden-Württemberg e.V., Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH, MAHLE International GmbH, Mineral Oil Refinery Upper Rhine GmbH & Co. KG, Phoenix Automotive Services GmbH, ANDREAS STIHL AG & Co. KG, Stuttgart Airport GmbH, Entrepreneurs Baden-Württemberg e.V., VDMA e.V., Association of Baden-Württemberg Omnibus Companies e.V., Association of the Württembergian Transport Industry e.V., and Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg e.V.
The alliance's primary goal is to raise public awareness of the importance of SAF, advocate for better framework conditions at the national and European levels, and establish clear, standardized processes for accounting and certification of SAF. The alliance also aims to increase the use of SAF on a voluntary basis, beyond the binding EU quotas, with a goal to achieve the climate goals of the state.
The "New Flying" Alliance is focused on education, research, climate protection, and transportation. The initiative identifies eight key levers for the transition to industrial production, including practical transitional rules for green power criteria, simplified rules for joint processing of power-based, biogenic, and fossil raw materials, and a European Book-&-Claim system for SAF.
The reFuels Action Plan, a part of the activities of the Ministry of Transport's THE aerospace LÄND air and space strategy, also supports the alliance's mission. Current supporters of the reFuels Action Plan include the same organizations listed above.
