Rameshwaram Cafe brings Bengaluru’s iconic dosas to Mumbai’s Churchgate

A new branch of the popular Bengaluru restaurant chain Rameshwaram Cafe is set to open near Mumbai’s Churchgate station. Known for its South Indian specialities like idlis, vadas, and dosas, the chain has already gained fame across India—even catering for Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant’s wedding in Jamnagar. Meanwhile, a Mumbai-based journalist’s raw and unedited documentary, Sola, recently premiered at a private screening in the city.

Rameshwaram Cafe has steadily expanded its presence across India. After launching a successful outlet in Pune—where customers enjoyed free snacks on opening day—the chain now brings its authentic flavours to Mumbai. The new location near Churchgate station will serve the same menu that has made it a favourite in Bengaluru.

The restaurant’s reputation grew further when it was chosen to cater South Indian cuisine at Anant Ambani’s high-profile wedding in Jamnagar. Its dishes, including crispy dosas and soft idlis, have consistently drawn praise for their quality and taste. In a separate event, journalist Swati Deshpande presented her short documentary Sola at the Press Club last Saturday. The film, shot entirely on a smartphone, follows her 320-kilometre trek along the Camino Primitivo, a historic pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Deshpande captured the rugged terrain, breathtaking landscapes, and the bonds formed among pilgrims during the journey. The background score, composed by Gaurav Chaterjee with percussion by Taufiq Qureshi, adds depth to the film’s immersive storytelling. The documentary stands out for its unplanned, uncut approach, offering viewers a raw and personal perspective of the pilgrimage. Deshpande’s decision to film the entire journey herself highlights the physical and emotional challenges faced by those walking the Camino Primitivo.

The opening of Rameshwaram Cafe in Mumbai adds another dining option for locals craving South Indian food. Its growing popularity, reinforced by high-profile catering events, suggests strong demand for its dishes. Meanwhile, Sola provides a unique glimpse into the Camino Primitivo, with its smartphone-shot footage and authentic soundtrack. The film’s private screening has already sparked interest among documentary enthusiasts in the city.
