Rare Exhibition Reveals Nicholas Roerich’s Art and Asian Expeditions
A new exhibition is showcasing the life and work of Nicholas Roerich, a renowned painter, traveller and philosopher. Nearly 200 artifacts from the International Centre of the Roerichs in Moscow are on display, including original paintings, personal belongings and expedition documents. The event marks two key anniversaries: the 90th year of the Roerich Pact and the 100th year of the Central Asian Expedition.
Roerich was more than just an artist—he created nearly 7,000 canvases while also exploring philosophy and global culture. His travels took him across Asia, where he collected artifacts and documented his journeys through photographs and writings. In India, he earned the title rishi or maharishi, meaning 'great seer', reflecting his deep influence in the region.
The exhibition offers a rare chance to see Roerich’s original works alongside intimate details of his life. It coincides with two major milestones: the 90th anniversary of the Roerich Pact and the 100th anniversary of his Central Asian Expedition. Through artifacts and documents, visitors gain a deeper understanding of his contributions to art, philosophy, and cultural exchange.
