Recognition given to journalists fostering our web-based cultural landscape through their work

The third edition of the National Press Awards, now named 'For the Cause of Developing Vietnamese Culture', has expanded its focus to encompass new thematic groups that were not part of the previous editions. These new groups include themes related to journalism, publishing, cyberspace, international cultural relations, and digital information[1].

A Shift in Focus

This year, prominent new themes have emerged, including the role of journalism in promoting Vietnam's rising image, digital transformation in journalism and library systems, and commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (1925–2025)[2]. The awards also aim to foster a reading culture within communities, families, schools, and society, and to build a modern library network to improve knowledge and support a learning society.

Beyond Traditional Topics

In addition to the traditional culture, sports, and tourism topics, the awards now include themes related to the development and completion of institutions, mechanisms, and policies for cultural, sports, and tourism development. The strategy aims to foster the creation of new cultural values with high quality and impact, and to develop the cultural and creative industries through 2030, with a vision to 2045[1][2].

Eligibility and Submission

Eligible entries include various journalistic forms such as feature articles, reports, investigative pieces, documentaries, essays, and discussion programmes, excluding live broadcasts on radio or television. Applications can be submitted in person or by mail to the Standing Office of the Awards at Văn Hóa Newspaper, with the deadline for submissions being July 31, 2025 (postmark date applies)[3].

Contact information for the Standing Office of the Awards is provided: Phone: 024.38220036 (extensions 110, 111)[4].

A Unified Vision

The renaming of the awards emphasizes culture as the lens through which other societal sectors are viewed. The image of the Vietnamese people in the era of renewal, development, and integration is a core focus, anchored in family, national identity, and culture. Harmonisation of traditional and modern values is a key objective, alongside preserving and promoting traditional cultural heritage and embracing global cultural excellence[5].

The Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Lê Hải Bình, signed Decision No. 2312/QĐ-BVHTTDL to officially rename the award on July 3, 2025[6].

Prizes and Recognition

A group prize worth VNĐ20 million (US$763) and individual prizes, including a First Prize worth VNĐ30 million, along with Second, Third, and Consolation prizes, will be awarded to recognise outstanding journalistic work that features real people, real stories, and demonstrates a strong investigative nature, timeliness, and accuracy[7].

The awards, managed under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, seek to promote the message of a rising Vietnam and to foster the creation of new cultural values with high quality and impact. Public awareness and participation in physical education and sports across all social groups is another focus area[8].
