More train tickets sold for Christmas than last year - Record Christmas train travel surge as Germans book early for holidays

More Germans than ever are planning to travel by train this Christmas. Bookings have risen by around six percent compared to last year. With Christmas Eve falling on a Wednesday, peak travel days will spread out between December 18 and 23, easing congestion on key routes.

Deutsche Bahn has boosted seating capacity in recent years to handle the holiday rush. New ICE fleet vehicles now provide extra space, particularly on high-demand services. This year, the expanded capacity will cover the main travel window from December 18 to 23, continuing through New Year’s.

The changes mean more people can travel comfortably by train this Christmas. With bookings up and capacity expanded, Deutsche Bahn expects a busy but well-managed holiday season. Passengers are reminded to plan ahead and secure their seats early.
