Autumn Holidays End - ADAC Expects Heavy Traffic - Reformation Day Weekend to Bring Heavy Traffic on German Motorways

The end of autumn school holidays in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and other German states is expected to bring heavy traffic on motorways this weekend. The Reformation Day long weekend is likely to boost short-trip travel, adding to the congestion.

The ADAC has warned of significant traffic on motorways, particularly on the A7 and A1 highways in the Schleswig-Holstein region. The Freihafen Elbe Bridge is currently closed to traffic following a collision with a cargo vessel, which is likely to cause additional delays. In the Hamburg metropolitan area, the Deichtor Tunnel in the city center is closed until Sunday evening, leading to further traffic disruption. Roadworks at the Elbe Tunnel and Norderelbe Bridge are expected to cause recurring congestion on Sunday, with only three lanes per direction open at the Elbe Tunnel due to ongoing construction.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys carefully this weekend, allowing extra time for travel and considering alternative routes where possible. Regular traffic updates should be monitored to stay informed about any changes or closures.
