Ticketless Travel with RMV's New 'In/Out' Feature - RMV-In/Out transforms public transport payments in Rhine-Main with tap-and-go ease
Public transport users in the Rhine-Main region now have a simpler way to pay for travel. The RMV app has launched RMV-In/Out, a new feature designed for occasional passengers. Funded by Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport, it removes the need to buy tickets in advance.
The service went live on December 10, 2025, after a successful pilot phase. Early testing showed strong approval, with 90% of users calling it intuitive and 98% ready to recommend it. Since its launch, over 5,000 people have used RMV-In/Out for more than 13,000 journeys.
To use the feature, passengers must first activate it in the RMVgo app. Before starting a trip, they check in, and the app tracks their entire journey—including transfers and final stop. Fares are calculated automatically, with payment processed directly through the app.
No updated figures have been released on user growth or trip numbers since the December launch. The system continues to operate without requiring pre-purchased tickets, offering a streamlined alternative for occasional travellers.
RMV-In/Out simplifies fare payment by handling everything through the app. The feature builds on positive feedback from its trial period and has already processed thousands of trips. For now, the service remains focused on occasional users in the Rhine-Main area.
