Roßberg Lookout reopens with stunning winter views after refurbishment
The Roßberg Lookout, perched on the border of Hesse and Thuringia, has reopened after a recent refurbishment. Visitors can now enjoy sweeping winter views across the Ulster Valley and the Hessian Kegelspiel. The area's natural beauty remains a highlight, even in the colder months.
The lookout sits in the Rhön region, often called the 'Land of Open Distances'. On clear days, the panorama stretches as far as the Kellerwald, the Knüll range, the Hercules monument near Kassel, and the Hoher Meißner. Below, villages like Kranlucken, Zitters, Schleid, Geisa, Borsch, and Buttlar dot the landscape.
The easiest route to the lookout starts along Dermbach Street in Theobaldshof. This two-kilometre path offers a straightforward way to reach the viewpoint. For those wanting a challenge, steeper trails from Kranlucken and Zitters are available. These routes, marked and maintained by the local Kohlbachtal heritage association, provide a more rugged experience.
The refurbished area now includes well-kept spaces for visitors to rest and take in the scenery. The lookout's upgrade ensures a comfortable visit, whether for a short walk or a longer hike through the winter landscape.
The Roßberg Lookout continues to attract walkers and nature lovers with its unspoiled views. The improved facilities and maintained trails make it a reliable destination for winter outings. From gentle strolls to demanding hikes, the area offers something for every visitor.
