Russia's Travel Prices Shift: Domestic Up, Overseas Down for Holidays

Domestic travel within Russia has seen a 7% price hike, now costing 66,000 rubles ($820). Meanwhile, overseas bookings during the extended November holidays have become more affordable, with an average cost of 222,700 rubles ($2,765), a 2.6% decrease from last year.

The ruble's exchange rate has dropped significantly, now standing at 80.5 rubles per dollar (a 17.1% decrease) and 93.4 rubles per euro (down 11.2%). Despite this, overall bookings for the holiday period have surged by 40%. Popular foreign destinations like Egypt, UAE, and Turkey have seen increased demand, with Egypt up 69.5%, UAE at 45.8%, and Turkey recording a 25.3% rise in bookings. The average cost of trips to these destinations has also decreased, with Egypt down to 189,900 rubles ($2,360), UAE at 213,400 rubles ($2,650), and Turkey at 174,000 rubles ($2,160). Destinations like Vietnam, China, and the Maldives have seen a significant boost in interest. Domestic tours, however, have risen in price by 5.6%, averaging 72,800 rubles ($905). The strengthening of the ruble and expanded air routes have contributed to the lower prices for foreign bookings.

While domestic travel within Russia has become more expensive, overseas bookings during the November holidays have seen a decrease in price. The strengthening ruble and expanded air routes have played a significant role in this shift, with overall bookings surging by 40%. Popular foreign destinations have seen increased demand and decreased prices, making overseas holidays more affordable.
