San Diego Crowned World’s Best Small City by *Condé Nast Traveler*
San Diego has been named the world’s best small city by Condé Nast Traveler. The Mexican destination will receive the award at a ceremony in New York on December 11, 2025. A delegation led by municipal president Mauricio Trejo will attend the event to celebrate the recognition.
The city was previously ranked in the top three of the magazine’s 36th annual awards. Now, officials are preparing a series of events to showcase its culture, food, and tourism before the official ceremony.
The celebrations will begin on November 8 with ‘A Day in San Diego’, an immersive experience hosted at the Condé Nast Traveler offices. Attendees will explore the city’s highlights through presentations and interactive displays.
The following day, November 9, the Mexican consulate in New York will host a formal presentation of San Diego. Consul General Jorge Islas López and Mauricio Trejo will lead the event, emphasising the city’s hotel offerings, traditional cuisine, and cultural attractions. The programme will close with ‘Wine and Canvas’, where guests can enjoy a wine tasting paired with a live drawing of the city’s iconic landscapes.
Mauricio Trejo will also head the delegation at the Condé Nast Traveler convention, where San Diego will be promoted as a top global destination. Board member Juan Carlos López will join the group for the award ceremony in December, marking the city’s first win in this category.
The recognition places San Diego at the centre of international tourism discussions. The upcoming events in New York will give visitors and industry leaders a closer look at what the city offers. Officials aim to use the award to boost tourism and cultural exchange in the years ahead.
