Saudi man drives 7,000 km to chase the northern lights in his Toyota

A Saudi man has driven over 7,000 kilometres to Norway in pursuit of the aurora borealis. Malik Alsultan set off in his Toyota, crossing multiple countries before reaching his destination. His adventure has since captured attention online, with many comparing it to a real-life car advert.

Alsultan began his trip in Saudi Arabia, travelling through Turkey, Hungary, Czechia, Germany, and Denmark. The route took him across varied landscapes and weather conditions, all while behind the wheel of his Toyota Hilux.

He arrived in Norway during the peak of winter, when the aurora borealis is most visible. The natural phenomenon typically appears between October and March, but only under clear skies. This year, Earth’s solar maximum has made sightings even more likely.

After weeks on the road, Alsultan finally spotted the aurora borealis. He documented the journey, praising his truck for its reliability and comfort throughout the long drive.

The trip has gone viral, with social media users joking that Toyota should use Alsultan’s story in a commercial. His journey highlights both the endurance of the vehicle and the allure of the aurora borealis. The phenomenon remains a major draw for travellers during the winter months.
