Funding for culture in the countryside: Seven projects supported - Saxony Invests €250,000 to Revitalize Rural Cultural Initiatives Over Three Years
Seven rural cultural projects in Saxony will receive long-term funding to strengthen local arts and community spaces. The Saxony Cultural Foundation has allocated €250,000 over three years to support these initiatives. Each organization will receive between €20,000 and €45,000 annually to develop their work further.
The selected projects cover a range of artistic and community-focused efforts. In Leisnig, the Kulturbahnhof association plans to turn a disused train station into a vibrant cultural and meeting place. Meanwhile, the Friedrich-Bödecker-Kreis Sachsen in the same town is refreshing its reading promotion programmes, aiming to bring literature to young people across the region.
Near Dresden, the Farbwerk initiative is building an inclusive theatre and dance ensemble. In Gohrisch, within Saxon Switzerland, the Kulturbaude und Landkunst group wants to establish the Heymannbaude as a permanent cultural venue. Another project, Steinleicht in Nebelschütz, is exploring new artistic formats that blend Sorbian and German cultural traditions. The Auf weiter Flur initiative will transform the Lehngericht in Augustusburg into a collectively managed cultural space. Finally, Sohland lebt! in Reichenbach (Upper Lusatia) is working to secure ongoing funding for its participatory community programmes. The foundation's support targets long-standing, regionally important initiatives to help them grow structurally and artistically. The funding does not include details about the leaders of these projects, but the focus remains on their cultural impact in rural areas.
The €250,000 investment will help these seven projects expand their reach and deepen their roots in Saxony's rural communities. Over the next three years, the funding will support everything from theatre and literature to community-led cultural spaces. The goal is to ensure these initiatives remain sustainable and accessible for local residents.
