Siberian Couple’s Unplanned 2,500-Kilometre Journey Ends at Lake Baikal

A couple from Siberia has completed an unexpected 2,500-kilometre road trip to Lake Baikal. Ilya Pyatkov and Dayana Shlyaeva set off on the journey with almost no preparation. Their adventure began on Dayana’s birthday, August 12, with little more than a bag of clothes and 10,000 rubles in cash.

Ilya Pyatkov, a TV operator from Biysk, and his girlfriend Dayana Shlyaeva decided on a whim to travel to Lake Baikal. The pair, originally from different countries—Ilya from Kyiv, Ukraine, and Dayana from Moscow, Russia—had no fixed plans when they left. They packed only the basics before hitting the road.

The couple reached their destination after days of travel, relying on determination and adaptability. Their unplanned trip highlights the unpredictability of adventure. The journey also reflects their shared spirit of exploration, despite their different backgrounds.
