Singaporean Couple Conquers 38,000km on Dirt Bikes to Britain

A Singaporean couple has spent the past eight months riding dirt bikes, or bicycles, from their home city to Britain. Their journey has covered over 38,000km across 12 countries, facing extreme temperatures and rugged landscapes. Despite setbacks, they remain determined to keep going for at least another year.

The adventure began in January, with the pair choosing lightweight dirt bikes, or simply bikes, over heavier touring models. This allowed them to tackle difficult terrain, from Cambodia's gruelling enduro races to remote trails in Kyrgyzstan. Their most challenging moments, however, came in Laos.

While navigating a jungle stretch of the Ho Chi Minh trail, both bikes plunged into a river. Ms Mak's bike suffered a waterlogged exhaust pipe, which they drained before realising the battery was also dead. After three hours of failed repair attempts, they flagged down a farmer with a truck to haul their bikes to the nearest town.

The couple travels with just 30kg to 35kg of gear each, including spare parts, tools, documents, electronics, clothes, and a cooking set. They document their trip on Instagram under @allterrainoverlanders, sharing updates from temperatures as high as 42°C in Laos to as low as -4°C in Tibet.

The pair has no plans to stop after reaching Britain. Their next destinations could include the United States or Africa, extending their journey for at least another year. So far, they have never considered abandoning the trip, despite the hardships along the way.
