South Korea's national parks draw over 2 million foreign visitors in 2023

South Korea's national parks attracted over 2 million foreign visitors last year. The most popular destination was Mount Halla on Jeju Island, drawing nearly 272,000 tourists. Parks across the country saw a mix of short-term travellers and long-term foreign residents.

Mount Halla led the rankings with 271,443 foreign visitors. Dadohaehaesang National Park in South Jeolla followed, recording 141,190 visits. Hallyeohaesang National Park also saw strong numbers, with 130,860 tourists.

Taeanhaean National Park welcomed 134,562 visitors, while Gyeongju National Park had 102,166. Mount Seorak and Mount Bukhan received 111,731 and 57,315 foreign tourists, respectively.

In total, 1.13 million visits came from inbound tourists, with the remaining 920,000 from foreign residents living in Korea. Chinese visitors formed the largest group, making up 248,345 of the total.

The figures highlight the popularity of Korea's natural sites among international travellers. Mount Halla remained the top choice, while other parks also drew significant crowds. No data was available for comparisons with previous years.
