Fireplace and Blankets: Winter Boat Trips Boom - Spreewald’s Winter Punt Tours Bring Warmth to Brandenburg’s Frozen Forest

The Spreewald region in Brandenburg remains a bustling destination even in winter. Lübbenau’s Großer Spreewaldhafen has launched its seasonal winter punt tours, offering visitors cosy rides through the frosty forest. With mulled wine, woollen blankets, and glass fireplaces on board, the experience blends warmth with the quiet beauty of the off-season landscape.

The winter punt service, run by Reederei Lachmann, began operations in late 2023. Twice-daily tours now run until the end of March, ensuring gondoliers stay employed through the colder months—a shift from past winters when many faced unemployment. Guests on these trips enjoy hot drinks and the peaceful surroundings as they glide through the Spreewald’s waterways.

The winter punt tours provide a steady income for boatmen while giving visitors a unique way to experience the Spreewald. By combining traditional hospitality with seasonal charm, the region continues to attract guests year-round. The initiative has turned the off-season into an opportunity rather than a downtime for local businesses.
