Storm disrupts ferry schedule - Storm Elli halts ferry routes to North Frisian islands on Friday

Storm Elli has forced the cancellation of ferry services to several North Frisian islands on fridays. Routes between Dagebüll and the islands of Föhr, Amrum, and the Halligen are all affected. The disruptions began early in the morning and will last until at least midday.

Ferry operator W.D.R. suspended all crossings from friday morning until just after 12:00 PM. The shutdown includes every route to and from the Halligen, with no partial exceptions. Services to Föhr and Amrum may restart later, but no fixed time has been set.

W.D.R. usually resumes operations as soon as wind and water conditions allow safe travel. Passengers are urged to check the latest traffic updates shortly before departure, as changes can happen with little warning. Once conditions ease, extra afternoon crossings will be added to make up for the canceled trips. The company has also warned that further schedule adjustments may still occur if the weather worsens. Those with bookings are advised to rebook their trips independently onto available services.

The storm has left travellers facing delays and cancellations throughout the day. Extra sailings in the afternoon aim to reduce the backlog caused by the morning suspension. Passengers should monitor W.D.R.’s updates for the latest changes before heading to the port.
