Swedish Teens Arrive in Greifswald for Annual Exchange Program
Fifteen Swedish teenagers and two teachers from Polhemskolan in Lund arrived in Greifswald today, marking the start of an annual exchange program that began in 2001. The students were welcomed at the town hall, kicking off a week-long visit that includes cultural exchanges and excursions.
The exchange program, which began in 2001, initially involved Katedralskolan in Lund and Gymnasium im Greifswald. This year, students from Polhemskolan have joined the exchange. During their stay, the Swedish students will live with host families, providing an immersive cultural experience.
The group has an action-packed itinerary. This afternoon, they plan to cycle to Wieck and explore the historic Eldena monastery ruins. Later in their visit, they will travel to Berlin by train and spend a day together on Usedom Island. In early October, Greifswald teenagers will return the visit, planning a hiking trip through the Søderåsen nature reserve in Lund and a visit to Malmö.
The exchange program fosters language learning and cultural understanding. Some Swedish students learn German, while their Greifswald counterparts learn Swedish. Today's welcome at the town hall set the stage for a week of shared experiences and friendship-building.
