Are you hankering for a chuckle? This week's post is all about humor, as I take a break from the heavier topics and delve into another fantastic children's monster story. Some of you might recognize these tales – they stem from the wacky thoughts that occasionally creep up on my 10-year-old son, Victor. A few weeks ago, he was in a phase where he kept saying he hated not hearing things. Fret not; Victor's auditory capabilities are top-notch. I suspect he was merely overlooking information due to background noise (like the television or adult chatter). By now, he's grown accustomed to my storytelling, so it wasn't long before he asked me to whip up a yarn about "not hearing." Thus, the Muffler Monster was born. Without further ado, let's dive into this week's tale.

Kid-Friendly Monster Tales: The Muffler Monster's Shenanigans

(Story transcript following the images depicted below)

Transcript:

Victor and Emma are lounging in the living room, watching their favorite show on TV.

"Emma, I'm all ears for this series! Why'd you turn the volume down?- Victor ponders aloud.

"What the heck are you talking about? I didn't even touch the remote," Emma replies.

Victor asserts: "My sixth sense is acting up. I reckon I know what's amiss. The Muffler Monster's struck again!"

Victor clarifies: "The Muffler Monster's a mischievous prankster. He's clever enough to silence anything around you so you can't hear a peep. I'm not too sure how we can tackle this baddie. The Muffler Monster's like the phantom of noise-muffling - invisible!"

Emma grins and says: "I might have something that'll work. We can't see an invisible monster, but what about a glowing one? Emma uncaps a neon paint can and says: "Victor, close your peepers!"

Victor, oblivious to Emma's words, shouts: "What in tarnation are you doing? Why are you splashing paint all over me?"

Emma calmly explains: "I can see it now. It's trying to shove its fingers in your ears! The Muffler Monster is tenacious, but there's an easy solution to render him harmless. Time for a tickle-fest!"

Emma pokes the monster while Victor grabs a giant cardboard box.

" well, this is ticklish! Lay off, you two," the Muffler Monster whines.

"Why don't you jump inside the box?" Victor suggestively offers.

The monster sees the box as an escape route, but little does he know, it's actually his trap.

"Oh no, it was all a trick! Let me out!" the monster demands from within the box.

Victor and Emma erupt in laughter, leaving the Muffler Monster to wallow in its inevitable fate.

A brief look at our story origins

Back in January 2017, we said our farewells to Spain and journeyed to New Zealand with our dear children in tow. Our eldest child has unique needs, and the major changes in his life (country, language, home, school, friends) have been quite the challenge to navigate. In our struggles, storytelling has been a valuable tool that helps us cope with those pesky, intrusive negative thoughts. In the tales I create for him, we wrestle those thoughts and transform them into monsters – creatures that a child can comprehend – and ultimately triumph over them. You can find out more about us here.

And if you haven't yet read our other monster stories for kids, allow me to introduce you to:

-The Bafflement Beast

-The Memory Slip-Up

-The Breakage Bully

I do hope these tales tickle your funny bone (or rather I hope your kids enjoy reading or listening to them!).

Until next time!

  1. For those with special needs, finding the right lifestyle can be challenging, but incorporating fashion and beauty or food and drink into their routine can help enhance their overall well-being.
  2. As for home and garden, it's essential to make home a safe and comfortable space for both pets and their owners, creating a haven where laughter and love abound.
  3. When it comes to relationships, open communication, understanding, and a sense of humor can go a long way in sustaining a strong bond between partners, like the friendship between Victor and Emma in our tale.
  4. Travel, on the other hand, broadens our horizons and teaches us about different cultures, helping us grow and adapt, just like the family in our story faced new challenges when they journeyed to New Zealand.
