Tourism in Thuringia: Revenue Exceeds Pre-Corona Levels - Thuringia's Tourism Rebounds Strongly, Generating €4.17 Billion in 2024
Thuringia's tourism industry has rebounded strongly, generating €4.17 billion in gross revenue in 2024, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. This surge in demand created income equivalent to 82,500 full-time jobs and contributed €390.1 million in VAT and income tax to public coffers.
The study, commissioned by the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism, revealed a 10 percent increase in tourist demand since 2019. The hospitality industry was the primary beneficiary, earning nearly €1.98 billion (47.6 percent) from tourism's gross revenue.
Visitors enjoyed 98.5 million overnight stays, with day trippers contributing significantly to the sector's total revenue.
Thuringia's tourism sector has shown remarkable resilience, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and generating substantial income and tax revenue. The hospitality industry has been the main beneficiary, highlighting the sector's importance to the region's economy.
