Travel Wave for the Holidays - Travel Wave for the Holidays
The holiday travel rush has started in Berlin and Brandenburg, with roads and airports preparing for heavy demand. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) alone expects around 1.1 million passengers over the festive period. Meanwhile, drivers face delays as construction work continues on key routes like the A100 and A115.
Friday will be the busiest day on the roads, with congestion peaking as people leave for the holidays. Christmas Eve and December 26, however, should see relatively smooth traffic conditions.
At BER, CEO Aletta von Massenbach oversees operations as the airport handles a surge in travellers. Around 7,300 flights are scheduled around the New Year, adding to the seasonal pressure. The airport has planned for increased passenger numbers, with staff working to manage the flow efficiently. On the roads, ongoing construction on the A100 and A115 will cause delays, particularly for those heading in and out of the city. Authorities have advised drivers to plan extra time or consider alternative routes where possible.
The holiday period will test both road and air travel systems in the region. BER’s preparations aim to keep flights running smoothly despite the high passenger volume. For drivers, avoiding peak times and checking traffic updates could help reduce delays during the festive travel rush.
