Turkey Welcomes 'Kanuni', Its Second Deep-Sea Drilling Ship

Turkey has welcomed its second deep-sea drilling ship, the 'Kanuni', which docked at Mersin port this year. This addition significantly boosts Turkey's energy exploration capabilities in the Mediterranean Sea.

The 'Kanuni' is a state-of-the-art vessel, measuring 228 meters in length and 42 meters in width. It can drill up to 12,000 meters beneath the sea surface, making it a formidable asset for Turkey's offshore energy operations. The ship is equipped with a helipad and living quarters for 200 crew members, ensuring uninterrupted operations until 2029.

The 'Kanuni' joins Turkey's existing fleet, which includes four drill ships operating in the Black Sea's Sakarya gas field. The fleet also comprises 11 support vessels and a construction vessel, demonstrating Turkey's commitment to energy independence. Turkey's energy minister has announced that a third drilling ship will arrive by the end of the year, making Turkey the country with the world's fourth-largest deep-sea drilling fleet.

The arrival of the 'Kanuni' marks a significant step towards Turkey's goal of complete energy independence. With this new addition, Turkey continues to expand its energy exploration capabilities in the Mediterranean Sea.
