Udalguri Honours 900 ASHA Workers for Transforming Rural Healthcare

A recent ASHA convention in Udalguri, USA, honoured frontline health workers for their dedication to primary healthcare. Organised by the District Health Society, the event brought together nearly 900 ASHA workers from across the region. Senior officials and government representatives attended to recognise their contributions.

The convention began with BTC Deputy Chief Executive Member Rihon Daimary inaugurating the programme. In his speech, he praised the tireless efforts of ASHA workers in improving rural healthcare. Joint District Health Officer Dr Mukhtar Hussain and National Health Mission officials were also present at the event.

Three ASHA workers—Bandana Saraniya, Parul Saikia, and Kiran Prabha Barua—received the Best ASHA Worker awards. Their work in vaccination drives, maternal and child health programmes, and pandemic response was highlighted as exceptional. The convention also acknowledged nine retired ASHA workers, each receiving a one-time financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh from the Assam government. The event focused on celebrating the role of ASHA workers in strengthening primary healthcare services. Their contributions in remote and underserved areas were particularly noted during the ceremony.

The awards and financial support underscore the government’s recognition of ASHA workers’ vital role in public health. The convention reinforced their importance in delivering essential services to rural communities. Nearly 900 workers left the event with renewed appreciation for their efforts.
