West Coast National Park initiates entry for the blooming wildflower period
Visiting West Coast National Park during the wildflower season offers a rare opportunity to witness one of South Africa's most breathtaking natural displays. The 2025 wildflower season has been initiated by South African National Parks (SANParks) at West Coast National Park (WCNP), running from 1 August to 30 September.
The wildflowers usually reach their peak between mid-August and mid-September. This year, due to good rains, peak colors can already be seen from early August. The Postberg section of the park will be open to the public during this period.
To optimize your visit for both views and lighter traffic, aim for midweek visits (Tuesday through Thursday) in early to mid-August or then again in the first two weeks of September. Try to avoid weekends and the long weekend around September 29, 2025. Arrive mid-morning to see flowers at their best before crowds and afternoon heat build.
SANParks advises visitors to avoid heavy traffic at the gates by planning their trips during sunny weekdays. The General Park Area operates from 7:00 to 18:00 (last entry 17:30) in August, and from 7:00 to 19:00 (last entry 18:30) in September. The Postberg Section operates from 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry 16:30) during the wildflower season.
Food trucks will be stationed at the Geelbek precinct, Tsaarsbank, and Preekstoel areas of the park to provide food and refreshments for visitors during the wildflower season. However, it is important to note that the Geelbek Restaurant is currently undergoing maintenance during this period.
Conservation fees for South African adults (with ID) are R116, for South African children are R58, for SADC adults (with passport) are R179, for SADC children are R89, for standard/international adults are R272, and for standard/international children are R136.

With careful planning, you can experience the spectacular colours with a more relaxed atmosphere and less traffic congestion. So, mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable journey!
