Wildlife expedition for Bremen kids - exploring animal encounters on a safari tour
In a heartwarming display of community engagement and corporate social responsibility, children from Hemelingen's community centre "Behind the Ellerns" embarked on a unique safari adventure at Serengeti Park Hodenhagen. The trip, made possible by a generous donation from real estate company Vonovia, provided these young explorers with an educational and exciting outdoor experience, far beyond their everyday surroundings.
The community centre "Behind the Ellerns" is a leisure-time pedagogical facility of KiTa Bremen, dedicated to supporting children and families in the neighbourhood. The donation from Vonovia enabled the centre to arrange a trip to Serengeti Park, one of Germany's largest safari parks, where the children could witness exotic animals, learn about their habitats, and participate in interactive programs designed to spark curiosity and promote environmental awareness.
On August 23, 25 children and young people from Hemelingen visited Serengeti Park. According to Gabriele Stubbe, the centre's director, the children were thrilled by the animals they encountered. The outing was a highlight of the annual programme for the children at the community centre "Behind the Ellerns".
The partnership between Vonovia and local social institutions not only emphasises corporate social responsibility but also underscores the importance of investing in enriching experiences for young people, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds. It also aligns with broader goals of promoting outdoor activities and environmental education among children.
Silke Loose, Vonovia's regional manager for Bremen's surroundings, expressed her satisfaction with the impact of their donation, stating, "We are pleased that our donation gave these children an unforgettable day."
The children travelled to Hodenhagen by bus, where they were guided by trained staff who help plan and shape their free time. In addition to the safari adventure, the centre offers numerous creative and active activities, fostering independence and social skills, as well as support with homework or problem-solving.
