Yale’s Dabke Team Celebrates Levantine Heritage in Vibrant Fall Showcase

Yale’s dabke dance team recently held a fall showcase at the Morse Crescent Theater. The event, co-sponsored by the Modern Arabic Program, celebrated Levantine culture and brought together students from diverse Middle Eastern backgrounds. For many, the performance was more than just a show—it was a way to connect with heritage and share traditions.

Dabke, a traditional Levantine dance, has roots in communal activities like house repairs. Over time, it evolved into a vibrant cultural expression. At Yale, the dabke team began as a collaboration with the Yale Arab Students Association before growing into its own group.

The fall showcase reinforced dabke’s role as both an artistic and cultural touchstone. It provided a platform for Middle Eastern voices while fostering connections across campus. The event’s success points to a growing interest in Levantine heritage at Yale.
