19th-Century Rukavishnikov Mansion Heads to Auction in Nizhny Novgorod

A historic 19th-century mansion in Nizhny Novgorod is set to go under the hammer. The 'House of V.M. Rukavishnikov', located at 21 Bolshaya Pecherskaya Street, will be sold at an open electronic auction. Bidding starts at 69,090,000 rubles, with no restrictions on who can take part. The wooden mansion was built in the second half of the 1800s in an eclectic architectural style. Originally owned by industrialist Vladimir Rukavishnikov, it later passed to the Solin merchant family. Today, the property remains state-owned by Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and holds protected status as a cultural heritage site.

The single-storey structure features attic spaces, two mezzanines, and a stone basement. Until recently, it housed exhibitions for the Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve. Under auction terms, the future owner must maintain its cultural use—whether as an art school, music academy, or educational club. The sale will proceed through an open electronic format, allowing any bidder to participate. No specific bid increments or participant limits have been imposed.

The auction presents an opportunity to preserve a piece of Nizhny Novgorod’s heritage. Whoever acquires the mansion will be legally required to keep it as a cultural space. The starting price reflects both its historical value and the obligations tied to its future use.
