Almaty's tourism boom nearly doubles visitors in 2025
In recent years, Almaty has solidified its position as one of the region's key tourism hubs, demonstrating steady year-round growth in visitor interest. This trend is confirmed by the findings of Almaty's 2025 Tourism Analytics Report.
Its strategic location—surrounded by breathtaking natural sites within easy reach—and mild climate remain the primary draws for both domestic and international travelers. The city's improving hotel and dining services have also played a significant role in boosting its appeal.
A study conducted by experts from the Almaty Tourism Bureau and Visit Almaty, in collaboration with Mastercard Tourism Insights, reveals a growing emphasis on recreational tourism in the city's visitor profile. In 2025, 84% of guests traveled to Almaty for leisure and relaxation.
This shift reflects Almaty's evolving image as a lifestyle tourism destination, where stunning landscapes, outdoor activities, and a vibrant urban cultural scene combine to create an attractive travel experience. At the same time, the city continues to serve as a vital economic center for the country.
Experts have noted changes in travel patterns among visitors. Solo travelers still represent the largest segment, accounting for about 37% of all guests, though their share is gradually declining in favor of organized group tours. Meanwhile, the family travel segment is showing the most dynamic growth.
Overall, the 2025 analysis highlights sustained growth in Almaty's appeal as a destination. Compared to 2023, the city's popularity has nearly doubled—rising by almost 2.5 times. A well-developed air transport network and liberal visa policies further reinforce Almaty's status as one of the world's most open and promising tourism hubs.
