Berlin's Gardens of the World reopens with extended hours and Easter festivities
"Spring into Spring" at Gardens of the World from March 28, 2026
Starting Saturday, March 28, 2026, Berlin's Gardens of the World in Marzahn will once again welcome visitors with the promise of spring. The season's first blooms—snowdrops, crocuses, winter aconites, and delicate cherry blossoms—will fill the air with the spirit of renewal. The themed gardens, closed during the winter months—including the Japanese Garden, Korean Garden, Oriental-Islamic Garden, and the Lebanon Garden Pavilion—will reopen to the public. As temperatures rise and days grow longer, guests will have more time to explore: until the end of March from 9 AM to 6 PM, and from April onward until 8 PM.
Colorful Easter Festival: 365 Eggs to Find
On Sunday, April 5, and Monday, April 6, 2026, Gardens of the World will host its first park festival of the season—a vibrant Easter celebration for all ages. Visitors can look forward to theater performances, storytelling, and joyful interactive activities. The highlight on Easter Sunday will be the grand egg hunt, with 365 eggs hidden throughout the park. Anyone who finds an egg can exchange it at the visitor center for a small surprise. But the real prize? Ten specially decorated eggs, each reflecting the unique Easter traditions of different countries, symbolizing the diversity and international influences that define Gardens of the World. These rare finds—inspired by France, Greece, Mexico, Japan, and beyond—come with a year-long pass, granting free entry to Gardens of the World, Britz Garden, and South Grounds Nature Park for 365 days. To give as many visitors as possible a chance, only one egg per person can be redeemed.
On Easter Sunday, young visitors will enjoy a special program: spring-themed children's theater, enchanting tales like "The Funny Easter Eggs" and "Sonira and the Wondrous Seed," and a large Easter obstacle course on the meadow near the Flower Theater. Creative minds can craft their own Easter musical instruments—who knew carrots could make music? The fun continues on Easter Monday with the Spring and Easter Theater by the Magic Workshop, musical stories like "The Wondrous Garden" and "The Hare and the Hedgehog," and surprise performances from a roaming Easter Walk-Act. An interactive Easter treasure hunt on the meadow will invite explorers of all ages to join in.
Tea Break in the Chinese Garden—Back Despite Renovations
From Saturday, March 28, 2026, guests can once again experience traditional Chinese tea culture in the Chinese Garden, thanks to a temporary kiosk with a terrace set up during the teahouse's renovation. Since November 2025, the historic teahouse has been undergoing restoration to preserve its original charm and secure its future. The project includes a complete roof replacement, with around 27,000 authentic tiles handcrafted in China. While the teahouse and its terrace remain closed to visitors until summer, the pop-up tea station ensures the tradition lives on.
Cable Car and Nature Toboggan Run Reopen
One of the most scenic—and relaxing—ways to reach Gardens of the World is by cable car, now running daily from 10 AM to 4:30 PM (until 7 PM in April) between Kienberg Park Station and the gardens. The ride offers breathtaking views of the park and Berlin's skyline, and the station is just 35 minutes by U5 subway from Berlin Central Station. For details, visit www.seilbahn.berlin.
Just in time for spring, the Nature Toboggan Run has also reopened. Thrill-seekers can race down the 500-meter track at speeds of up to 40 km/h, taking in the lush greenery of Kienberg. Operating hours are 10:30 AM to 4 PM (until 6 PM in April), with the ticket booth closing one hour before.
