Komi's Asya Kya Ensemble Returns to St. Petersburg After Five Years

On May 22, artists from the Republic of Komi will take the stage at St. Petersburg's State Academic Capella. The renowned Viktor Morozov State Song and Dance Ensemble Asya Kya will present its grand program The North—Our Land.

The tour by the ensemble—rightfully considered the region's cultural calling card—will be the centerpiece of the cultural and tourism project Komi Summer in St. Petersburg, supported by the governments of both regions.

The group last performed in the city on the Neva five years ago. Their return to the Capella is symbolic: the prestigious venue is the perfect setting to showcase the ensemble's intricate artistry and the power of its national polyphonic traditions. (Asya Kya translates from Komi as Morning Dawn.)

The North—Our Land is more than a collection of masterpieces; it is a bold, innovative reinterpretation of national folklore, where ancient legends find fresh expression. Like an artist's canvas, the performance unfolds in vivid scenes—evoking the majesty of untouched nature, the mystery of folk customs, the wisdom of age-old traditions, the tales of ancient myths, and the vibrant uniqueness of festive celebrations," noted the Representative Office of the Republic of Komi in Russia's Northwestern Federal District.
