Primorye invests 130M rubles to upgrade beaches and boost coastal tourism
Beach tourism remains a cornerstone of Primorye's travel industry, with around 70% of visitors to the region choosing coastal vacations during the warm season, according to data from the regional Ministry of Tourism, as reported by the press service of the Primorye government.
"Today, the region boasts over 100 well-equipped recreational sites along its seashores and freshwater bodies," the statement reads.
Primorye is home to more than 1,150 collective accommodations, offering a total of roughly 32,000 rooms. Half of these are holiday bases, guesthouses, and glamping sites located in coastal areas, while the rest—hotels and hostels—are concentrated in major cities.
Out of the region's 150 most popular bays, entrepreneurs have already developed 112, providing changing rooms, showers, restrooms, and entertainment options ranging from paddleboard and catamaran rentals to guided tours and fishing trips.
To support businesses, government subsidies are in place. In 2026, 130 million rubles have been allocated for beach improvements, funding parking lots, shaded pavilions, boardwalks, modular restrooms, mother-and-child rooms, and sand-cleaning equipment. Over the past three years, subsidies have helped renovate around 20 waterfront recreation areas.
This spring, municipalities launched a water safety campaign, requiring businesses to comply with regulations: classifying accommodations, using cash registers, obtaining licenses for attractions and tours, and ensuring vessel inspections.
Starting in June, oversight will tighten on unaccompanied minors in swimming zones, accompanied by expanded public awareness efforts.
