Solo Completes 10,500-Mile Tesla Road Trip from Shanghai to Bergen in 60 Days
A man known as Solo has completed a 10,500-mile road trip from Shanghai to Bergen in a Tesla Model Y. The journey took 60 days and crossed extreme landscapes, from deserts to the Arctic Circle. Along the way, he faced unexpected challenges with Tesla chargers and infrastructure.
Solo set off from Shanghai in a Chinese-spec Tesla Model Y, which used a GB/T charging port. This caused difficulties in Europe, where compatible Tesla chargers were rare. His route also took him through Russia and Kazakhstan, where Tesla charging stations were scarce and often found only at petrol stations.
Payment issues, weak mobile signals, and GPS dropouts added to the complications in Russia. In Kazakhstan, finding working Tesla chargers became a constant struggle. Despite these setbacks, Solo pushed forward, sleeping in the car using Tesla's camp mode and a makeshift bed setup.
His trip joins a list of unusual long-distance drives. Previous examples include two men taking a Reliant Robin from London to Cape Town and a pair of Brits driving a Lada to Chernobyl. Solo's journey, however, stands out for its reliance on electric power across such vast and varied terrain.
The 60-day trip ended in Bergen, Norway, after Solo navigated technical hurdles and harsh conditions. His experience highlights the challenges of long-distance electric travel in regions with limited Tesla charging networks. The journey also adds to a growing list of adventurous road trips undertaken in unconventional vehicles.
