Disney World adds first new ferry in 50 years to support Magic Kingdom's expansion
Walt Disney World is expanding its ferry fleet for the first time in nearly 50 years. A fourth vessel, named after former president Meg Crofton, will join the existing three by 2027. The move comes as Magic Kingdom undergoes its largest-ever expansion. The new ferryboat, Meg Gilbert Crofton, honours Disney World’s fourth president. During her leadership, Crofton oversaw major projects, including the expansion of New Fantasyland and the opening of Art of Animation Resort. Her portrait will feature on the ferry’s first deck.
Construction is already underway, with assembly taking place on-site. The design will match the current fleet in capacity, appearance, and passenger experience. Once completed, the ferry will increase transport options across the resort. The addition marks the first fleet expansion since 1976. Scheduled to launch in 2027, the ferry will support growing visitor numbers during Magic Kingdom’s historic growth. The vessel’s name and design pay tribute to Crofton’s lasting impact on the resort.
