Shchuchinsk-Borovoye unveils major upgrades ahead of record summer rush

The Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort area is gearing up for a busy summer season with major upgrades and new attractions. Officials have announced a series of improvements, from new hotels to extended public services, as visitor numbers continue to climb. This year’s holiday season kicks off on June 1, with the region expecting 2 million tourists—up from 1.8 million last year. Burabay resort remains the top draw, attracting around 85% of all visitors.

Infrastructure work is nearly complete, including upgrades to water supply and sewage systems. Two new hotels and two recreational areas will open soon, alongside two free public beaches on Lakes Shchuchye and Borovoye. Twelve additional restroom facilities will also be added, bringing the total to 41.

Public amenities in busy areas will now stay open longer, with some operating from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The resort is also pushing for greener transport, with plans to phase out internal combustion vehicles by 2029.

Investment is another focus, with officials aiming to attract 15 billion tenge in private funding this year. International hotel chains are among the key backers of new projects. Meanwhile, helicopter tours will continue, and talks are underway to introduce small-plane flights over Burabay. The upgrades and new services come as the resort prepares for its busiest season yet. With more visitors, extended facilities, and eco-friendly initiatives, the area is set for a summer of growth and improved tourism.
