For those craving a nostalgic trip, this weekend offers a chance to chug leisurely through Berlin aboard a historic steam train. Here's what else the Steam Locomotive Friends' Spring Festival has in store.
Historic steam train festival rolls into Berlin this weekend
Railway enthusiasts can take a scenic round-trip through Berlin in a steam train with vintage carriages this weekend. The Dampflokfreunde Berlin association is hosting its Spring Festival at the Schöneweide depot grounds. According to the organizers, the train will depart on Saturday and Sunday at 10:50 a.m., 12:10 p.m., 2:50 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the festival grounds or onboard.
If the train is fully booked, visitors can still experience a short ride in the engineer's cab of one of the grand locomotives. Children can enjoy a ride on a narrow-gauge field railway. The event also features an exhibition of 30 locomotives and carriages spanning 120 years of railway history. Food and drinks will be available in a historic dining car and a beer garden.
Admission to the festival costs €12 for adults and €5 for children aged 6 to 14. The steam train round-trip tickets are priced at €20, with a reduced fare of €10. The festival grounds will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
