Pentecost travel rush: Germany braces for packed trains again

Germany’s rail network is set for another busy weekend as Pentecost approaches. Deutsche Bahn has warned travellers to expect packed trains, following a surge in passenger numbers over the recent Ascension Day holiday. Over Ascension Day, trains saw heavy use, with around 420,000 people travelling on ICE and Intercity services on the busiest Sunday. Many took advantage of the long weekend for trips and short breaks.

Now, Deutsche Bahn is preparing for similar demand over Pentecost, particularly on Friday and Monday. The company predicts high capacity on key routes, including Berlin to Munich, Frankfurt to Munich, and Hamburg to Berlin. To avoid overcrowding, passengers are advised to book seats in advance. Those without reserved tickets can check real-time occupancy updates online before boarding.

With trains likely to fill up quickly, Deutsche Bahn is urging travellers to plan ahead. Seat reservations and online occupancy checks aim to help manage the expected rush during the Pentecost weekend.
