Russian travellers flock to Egypt, Turkey, and local beaches for May getaways
May is shaping up as a popular month for beach holidays among Russian travellers. Warm destinations like Egypt, Turkey, and parts of Russia’s southern coasts are drawing attention. Prices and water temperatures vary, giving options for different budgets and comfort levels.
Egypt remains a top choice for those wanting guaranteed warmth. In Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh, the water stays a comfortable 24–26°C (75–79°F) in May. A week-long all-inclusive package for two starts at around 140,000 rubles.
Turkey follows closely as the most visited destination for Russian tourists. Resorts like Antalya and Alanya see water temperatures of 18–20°C (64–68°F) by late April 2026. A 4-star all-inclusive stay for two costs from 99,000 rubles for a week. Closer to home, Russia’s southern coasts offer more affordable options. The Sea of Azov warms up quickly due to its shallow depth of just 7–8 metres (23–26 ft). By late April, waters near Crimea’s Azov coast already reach 15–16°C (59–61°F), climbing to 18–19°C (64–66°F) in May. Prices in towns like Azovskoye, Shcholkino, and Mysovoye are 1.5–2 times lower than in Sochi. The Black Sea is slower to warm, with temperatures around 15–17°C (59–63°F) in Sochi and Adler during May. In Dagestan, the swimming season begins early, with Derbent and Kaspiysk seeing water temperatures of 15–16°C (59–61°F) in April–May. Air temperatures along the Sea of Azov and Dagestan’s coasts hover around 18–20°C (64–68°F), making beach trips pleasant.
Travellers have a range of choices for May beach holidays. Egypt provides the warmest waters but at a higher cost, while Turkey balances warmth and affordability. Russia’s southern coasts offer budget-friendly alternatives, though with cooler sea temperatures. Each destination caters to different preferences for comfort and spending.
